The Maple Leafs take on the Sabres tonight in Buffalo. Here are three keys to a win tonight.
Get engaged early
The Leafs are coming off a win against the Lightning, who themselves were playing the back half of back-to-back games. It’ll be tough to get the feet going early on, but if the Leafs can get into the game, it could be smooth sailing as they take on a Sabres team that sits dead last in the NHL. It doesn’t mean the Sabres can’t surprise now and then.
The Sabres goaltending situation is among the worst in the NHL. Firing a lot of shots toward Buffalo’s net should be the Leafs top priority. Quality chances are huge but firepower should be the main objective for Toronto. The Leafs gave up 41 shots on Tuesday night and can’t allow that to happen once again, regardless of their quality goaltending. Shoot hard. Shoot often
Contain Moulson and Ennis
Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis have been daggers to the Leafs defence. They both have six points over their last two games against the Maple Leafs and represent much of Buffalo’s optimism for the future. If either one of these players is afforded space in front of Toronto’s net, they aren’t likely to miss out.
It should be a fun crowd for the Maple Leafs who will have a lot of fans making the trip down the QEW.
