"TORONTO (October 14, 2003) -- Washington Capitals forward Mike Grier has been suspended for one game, without pay, for an elbowing incident during NHL game #36 against the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 13, the National Hockey League announced today.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Grier will forfeit $9,066.66. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Grier was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing Toronto player Robert Reichel at 17:15 of the third period.
Grier will miss tonight's game at Montreal and will be eligible to return Friday, Oct. 17 vs. the Dallas Stars.
