That would be Jarome Iginla’s insurance goal in the third period. Down 3-2 the Leafs were applying consistent pressure but when Iginla sprang loose for a moment, he quickly distanced himself from the Leafs checkers and rocketed a shot past Toronto goalie Vesa Toskala at the 2:30 mark.  By the time Iginla raised his arms, the game was essentially over. The goal was Iginla’s second of the night and 11th of the season.

Miikka Kiprusoff. After falling behind 2-0, the Leafs rallied to bring themselves to within one. Kiprusoff held off the Leafs who outshot Calgary 30-11 over the first two periods.

In all, Kiprusoff stopped 38 of 40 shots to record his 11th win of the season in 16 games.

Playing in his first NHL game, Carl Gunnarsson was quite impressive and didn't appear to have any jitters.

The 23 year-old was paired with Luke Schenn during 5-on-5 play and even saw time on the power play. In total Gunnarsson played 21:18, had three shots, two hits and five shot blocks, most in the game.

The Maple Leafs' inability to score the opening goal once again came back to bite them. It has been 16 of 18 games that the Leafs have now given up the opening goal.

The Leafs' record when giving up the first goal now stands at 2-10-4.

Carl Gunnarsson on what was said to Jonas Gustavsson:

"We just said keep your head up, it's not your fault, a good shot from Iginla and a deflection. It's a tough start for him and he's going to come back strong."
