Five Takeaways from Maple Leafs vs. Panthers

by David Alter / Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 in one of the wackiest games you will ever see. Here are some takeaways.

Great start

The Maple Leafs began the game with a lot of pressure and scoring chances at Florida’s net. They came out firing and deserved the two points earned tonight. When the Leafs have set a good tone early, they usually get the results in their favour.

New Guys

Joakim Lindstrom made the most of his 7:04 ice time tonight. He had three shots on goal for the night, including two from in close that represented the Leafs best scoring chance of the first period. Tim Erixon didn’t look out of place in his 15:52 ice time.

The Florida Panthers were desperate for two points and Jonathan Bernier was spectacular, especially in the third period. Bernier made 17 saves as his team trailed 2-1. This game is not won without his stellar play. Bernier finished with 40 saves.

Top guys cashing in

Nazem Kadri and Tyler Bozak cashed in on a pair of goals. For Kadri, it was his 16th of the season and he has 16 points in 16 career games against the Panthers. Bozak got the power play going with his 18th goal of the season. Bozak has 10 power play goals this season.

Rallying point

A lot was said today before this game. The Leafs are frustrated with the way this season has gone and perhaps this game could be a focal point and the start of something better for the Leafs moving forward.
