Tyler Wotherspoon is six-foot-something of eraser, a heavy set defender big enough to make sure nothing untoward happens on his shift.

“You always want a solid shift and no mistakes,” he said. “There are going to be shifts where things don’t go the way you want but the good shift after the bad shift, that’s what you’re looking forward to. After a bad shift you have to have a good shift to get confidence back up. One good shift leads to another."

Wotherspoon learned just that during his rookie season where, like most freshmen, he occasionally struggled with the jump to major junior.

“I had some troubles as a rookie but the coaches helped me a lot. I made that transition this year realizing that the next shift is more important than the last one.

“Learning to deal with failure is the most important thing. It feels much better to learn from your own mistakes than to repeat them.”
