The Tampa Bay Lightning wrapped up the portion of training camp being held in Estero on Thursday, with the team bussing back to Tampa to hold the final practice of the week on Friday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
Thursday’s action included a lot of intense play that again focused on special teams, with yet another scrimmage being played during the second half of the session.
THE FINAL ACT
Thursday’s practice in Estero was the last at Germain Arena for the week, and even with the team heading back to Tampa Bay, head coach Guy Boucher announced the final roster as camp concluded.
Aside from the mainstays, Cory Conacher, Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Keith Aulie will all be featured on Saturday night’s opening day roster.
“Conacher has done a lot already being league MVP, the leading scorer and winning a championship and has continued to improve,” Boucher said. “With Labrie it’s the same thing. He’s a good character person and he brings so many intangibles and we want to get bigger. So, they both earned it.”
Steven Stamkos caught up with BoltsTV following practice today in Estero as the team prepared to return to Tampa Bay.
After Guy Boucher announced that Cory Conacher, Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Keith Aulie would all stay with the big club, one could deduct the fate of the other invitees at camp.
As the afternoon unfolded, Tyler Johnson, Mark Barberio and Radko Gudas were all assigned to Syracuse of the American Hockey League, while Mike Angelidis, Kyle Wilson, Matt Taormina and JT Wyman were put on waivers. The team will know Friday at noon if those players cleared.
THIS AND THAT
Vincent Lecavalier had the only goal in Thursday’s scrimmage, a 1-0 contest taken by the Blue Team.
The team will hold practice on Friday at 11:30 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The sessions is open to the public and will feature free lunch for fans.
