Looks like some good news on the injury front for the Lightning today. Left wing Ryan Malone
completed another full practice and Interim Head Coach Rick Tocchet said it looks like he'll be ready to go for tomorrow's game against Nashville. The status for Gary Roberts is in doubt, however. He didn't skate today and is being listed as day to day with an upper body injury.
Speaking of the Predators, I honestly don't know too much about their team, but it will be nice to see Nick Tarnasky again. Did you see his fight earlier this month against Shane O'Brien? If not, check it out on Youtube. It's amusing to see because those two were tight friends during their time in Tampa - I guess they needed to settle a bet or something.
In case you didn’t read it or hear it already, the Lightning will debut their third jerseys on Sunday (new jerseys against New Jersey???). I had a chance to take a look at them today and they are solid. I think everyone’s going to like the look, and the team is working out a promotion to have a player sign the new jerseys for anyone who buys one at the game Sunday. Stay tuned.
Today was a bit of a different day for the Lightning this season, with practice moved earlier to allow for a lengthy video session. It seemed more like the way things used to be prior to this season, when lengthy video meetings occurred a couple of times a week. Tocchet said he’s starting to realize that a lot of the players on the team like to be able to visualize what’s being taught, so more and more video can be expected.
As for the Tocchet’s mandate that players be ready to concentrate and work hard at practice, he said it’s coming along.
“Most of the guys are starting to get what were doing in practice,” he said. “They're buzzing. We still have a lot of things we need to work on. We’re not even close to being good enough going to the net.”
Oh, and to the person who emailed saying the silhouette at the top of this page looks like a certain terrorist leader and should be changed: Are you joking? If you paid attention to this column near the end of last season you’d know what the silhouette is all about. Let’s not take things too seriously, OK?
