It was a quiet morning for the Lightning, with the full team participating in the morning skate in preparation for tonight’s meeting with the Edmonton Oilers. Johan Holmqvist will get the call in net and try to keep his hot streak going, and it looks like Andreas Karlsson will be back in the lineup tonight. Other than that, no changes for the Lightning.
Today seems like another good day to answer some emails, so here goes.
Jonathan, who lives in Norfolk, is wondering if any help might be headed to the Admirals since so many players expected to be in Norfolk have landed in Tampa Bay.
Jonathan, nobody expected the injury problems the Lightning have dealt with this season, so it’s been a tough situation in Norfolk. Not many people expected current Lightning players Craig MacDonald, Mathieu Darche, Kyle Wanvig and Karri Ramo to be in Tampa Bay, but that’s not the way things have played out. It’s also likely that one of the current Lightning defensemen would have started the year in Norfolk if Dan Boyle hadn’t been injured.
The good news is that Dan Boyle and Michel Ouellet could be back in the Lightning lineup soon, which would likely mean some reinforcements headed back to Norfolk.
Susan thinks the officials have singled out the Lightning this season, penalizing the team for no apparent reason. She also wonders if the NFL’s “challenge” system might work in the NHL.
Well Susan, everyone gets frustrated by the officiating sometimes, but in the long run it’s the teams that determine the outcome. Fans of most every team seem to vent the same frustrations, which likely means things even out in the end. As for a challenge system, the NHL replay system does a thorough job in determining whether or not goals are valid, but I can’t see it being used to second-guess penalty calls. You’d have trouble finding anyone to ref the games in that situation!
Vicki and her son are traveling to Tampa from Chicago at the end of the month and she’s wondering when the February practice schedule will be posted so they might catch a practice in Brandon.
Sorry Vicki, but the February schedule was released this morning and it doesn’t look like the team will practice in Brandon while you’re in town. The only scheduled February days in Brandon are the 18th, 24th and 28th. All other practices will be at the St. Pete Times Forum. I’d expect the full February schedule to show up on tampabaylightning.com any day.
Joseph asked for the latest Dan Boyle update.
Joseph, it looks like we’re getting close. The team hasn’t announced when Dan will return, but everyone who’s watched him practice lately will say he looks ready. Hopefully it’s soon!
