The Lightning will try and build on their 6-4 win against the Maple Leafs on Thursday tonight versus the Southeast Division-leading Capitals. It will be a tall order for Tampa Bay to shut down the potent Washington offense.
Not only do they have to worry about shutting down Alex Ovechkin, but Mike Green is one goal away from setting the NHL record for goals in consecutive games with eight. Paul Ranger and Andrej Meszaros are still out so the job will land on the shoulders of Steve Eminger, Matt Smaby and company.
Rick Tocchet said this morning that Smaby and Eminger were the team's most improved players of late. Tocchet also praised Smaby for his work down low, saying he is the best defenseman on the team below the hash marks.
Offensively the Lightning will have to make the most of their chances and it wouldn't hurt to repeat their 3-for-4 mark on the power-play from Thursday. Tocchet also told the media this morning that Tampa Bay would need some ugly goals tonight.
Steve Downie makes his return to the line-up tonight and Ryan Craig will take his turn in the press box. Adam Hall
will be a game-time decision.
