Just when I didn't think it could get any colder I woke up today and it is brutal outside. The Bell Center is a block away from the hotel and it is still an extremely long walk with the weather. Once at the rink this morning, the players had an open practice to a capacity crowd. It was amazing that the place was packed to the rafters for an open practice.

Martin St. Louis arrived today after driving from Burlington, Vermont with his family. He didn't make it in time for the practice, but was here in time to walk the red carpet before the skills competition. Vincent Lecavalier was greeted with fans chanting his name as he walked the red carpet. The people up here just love him. It really is a circus everywhere he goes.

Although he didn't win the hardest shot competition, it was still a win/win sitution as $18,000 will be donated to the charity of Zdeno Chara's choice. Each player and team put up $1,000 and the league added an additional $6,000 to the winner. According to VInny, Chara was pretty confident going into the event as he was asking for the money before the competition started. All in good fun.
