Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Radko Gudas will miss approximately four months of the season with a right knee injury the team announced today.
Gudas, 24, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday in Tampa, where the extent of the injury was determined.
A four-month timetable means Gudas will miss the remainder of the regular season and likely wouldn’t be available for a return until the later stages of the Stanley Cup Playoffs should the Lightning make a deep run.
Gudas missed the first two games of the Lightning’s current road trip before returning to Tampa on Sunday ahead of the Bolts’ game in Ottawa.
The 6-foot, 204 pound blue liner has played in 31 of the Lightning’s 41 games this season, recording two goals and three assists. His 34 penalty minutes are second-most on the Bolts.
Gudas is a third-round Lightning pick (66th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
