Ohlund's Out-Takes: A day of rest

by Staff Writer / Tampa Bay Lightning

There were a few rewards for finishing in the top of our group during the preliminary round.  Not only did we get a bye in the first round of the elimination games, but we also got a nice day off yesterday.  I spent most of the day with my wife and kids.  The weather is just beautiful here so we just spent some time walking around the city and enjoying the atmosphere.

Today we have an afternoon meeting at 5 p.m. so we still haven’t done a lot today.  I grabbed some lunch with the family and will enjoy some down time before heading over to the rink.

From an on-ice standpoint, it was very important for us to earn the first round bye.  We have a number of guys who have played a lot of hockey, myself included, in the past few weeks so the extra day off and break will be very beneficial to the team.  We’ll have our practice today, get focused and be ready for either Slovakia or Norway tomorrow.

It has been a great first week here.  The weather has been beautiful, there are tons of people everywhere and I think it has been a tremendous time.  Overall it has been a great experience.  Hopefully it will last a bit longer.
