The Tampa Bay Lightning honored MacDill Air Force Base as the 46th Lightning Community Hero of the season during the first period of tonight's Game 3 against the Montreal Canadiens. The $50,000 donation that comes with the Community Hero award is being donated to the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce Foundation, in support of Air Fest 2016.
For 75 years MacDill Air Force Base has been committed to keeping the community, nation and free-world safe and secure. The base is home to the 6th Air Mobility Force which provides vital mid-air refueling to our forces. It is also home to the U.S. Central and U.S. Special Operations Commands and 36 other mission partners.
More than 14,000 dedicated individuals currently work at MacDill, contributing to the Tampa Bay economy and the local community. The Community Hero funding is supporting AirFest, the base's annual Air Fest which has educated millions of visitors to the inner workings of the base and has inspired generations of children to serve for their country.
