Veteran defenseman Brad Lukowich will sit down periodically during the season to update fans on the team's road trips, get-togethers and anything else he finds interesting. Check back often to kick back and relax in Luke's Lounge as he lets you in on the happenings on the road and on the ice.
First of all, I have to say that it's really nice to be back. My family and I are so happy to be back in Tampa, and I'm really excited to get the season going.
The excitement was all there for the home opener and it was great to have everybody fired up and get a big win. We had the big home-stand to start us off and we knew we had to come out of the gates flying and that would provide us with the start that we needed to get us rolling the right way. Everything that we needed to do was there the first couple of games. We got great goaltending, our forwards put the puck in the net and there weren't any nerves or anything, it was all excitement. The fans were there and it was definitely nice to be on the other side. The last time I played in this building, I was playing for a different team, so it was great to be back.
The road trip down to Florida was a short one. Sometimes you're looking forward to that first road trip for the bonding experience, but it was a quick 35-minute flight down there, grab some food, play a game and come home. Unfortunately it wasn't the outcome that we wanted. It was a bizarre game, but in the third period we showed that we can come back from big leads and make it interesting. We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot. We learned from it and we’ve had an extremely tough week of practice with conditioning and working on special teams.
We're excited to get up to Boston. We want to be known as one of those teams that can win on the road as well. This game is going to be big for us; it's a little bit longer of a trip where you have to be on the plane together a little longer and go out and have a dinner. We've got to get back to our winning ways. We do that by doing the simple things and doing what we've been doing in practice all week.
Boston's a good team, and you know, certain teams just have things that get in your head. If we can block it out mentally and just go in there and concentrate on us and not who we're playing and play a good, solid road game and do our own thing, we're going to be successful. We want to try and get the reputation for being a tough team to play against both at home and on the road. We want teams to know that no matter where you're playing against us, it's going to be a tough battle.
