TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning will host Fan Appreciation Days during their final four home games of the 2008-09 season. The games will feature numerous enhanced fan experiences including Lightning players on the red carpet, game-worn jersey raffles and many food and beverage specials. The Lightning’s final four home games are Tuesday, March 24 vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets, Sunday, March 29 vs. the Ottawa Senators, Tuesday, April 7 vs. Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Thursday, April 9 against Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
On March 29 and April 9, all Lightning players will walk the red carpet on the Chrysler-Jeep Plaza from the circle drive in front of the St. Pete Times Forum to Shots at Channelside on the way to the locker room. Players are expected to start arriving approximately three hours prior to game time. Once the players have arrived, the fun will just be starting for fans on the Chrysler-Jeep Plaza. Live bands will rock the plaza pregame for the final three games, and enhanced activities will include a rock-climbing wall and several other interactive games, as well as a FanZone Tent where kids can make their own posters or have their faces painted.
Fans will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to win game-worn Lightning jerseys through a charity raffle in the arena during each game. Twenty lucky fans will be chosen randomly to step on the ice to receive the jerseys off the players’ backs following the game on April 9.
There will be “Register to Win” locations on the Chrysler-Jeep Plaza prior to each game and five fans who enter will go on the ice during the second intermission on April 9, with one taking home ThunderBug’s all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The register to win opportunities will also include exclusive Lightning experiences during all four games such as the chance to sit in the radio booth with Dave Mishkin and Phil Esposito or the Sun Sports booth with Rick Peckham and “The Chief”, Bobby Taylor. Other winners will be chosen to participate in St. Pete Times Forum game operations and hit the goal horn button or to get up close and personal with in-arena announcer Paul Porter from ice level for a period. Also don’t miss a pregame Guitar Hero contest in Shots on March 29, as well as a chance to walk down to the ice and take a slap-shot following the games on March 24, April 7 and April 9.
Player autograph opportunities will be scheduled on the concourses during intermissions, and food and drink specials will include $2 beers and $1 hotdogs from 6-7 p.m. in Shots as well as free popcorn, peanuts or cotton candy on the concourses while supplies last. Premium giveaways for fans will include free Rubix Cubes for 2,500 children on March 29, and team posters for all fans on April 7 and 9.
