The Tampa Bay Lightning is teaming up with the American Red Cross to provide relief for the earthquake victims of the island nation of Haiti. For each of the Lightning’s next eight home games, the team is making specially-priced tickets available, with a significant portion of the purchase price being donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund. Additionally, the team and the St. Pete Times Forum will collect donations for the fund at upcoming events, including all hockey games through Feb. 11, 2010.
“The devastation we are seeing from Haiti is unfathomable and our hearts go out to all of those in need,” said Oren Koules, Chairman and Governor of the Lightning. “The franchise will do everything it can to help the cause and we encourage everyone to get involved someway, somehow, whether it be through the Lightning, the Red Cross or any other supporting organization.”
The Lightning have eight home games before the National Hockey League goes on Olympic hiatus in mid-February. For each of those eight games, the team is offering two specially-priced tickets; plaza (lower) level seats for $65 and terrace (upper) level seats for $10. The team will then donate $15 for every $65 seat purchased and $5 for every $10 seat purchased directly to the Red Cross International Response Fund.
Additionally, the Lightning will be soliciting donations for the International Response Fund before each of these games on the West Plaza, at the arena entrances, at the guest services desk outside of section 101 and at the Lightning Foundation tables outside of section 120.
