TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning, in conjunction with community partner Metropolitan Ministries, have once again teamed up for a non-perishable food drive to be held before their home games on November 4 versus the Chicago Blackhawks and November 17 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Metropolitan Ministries staff and volunteers as well as Lightning player wives and girlfriends will be collecting non-perishable food items on the west plaza prior to the game.
Metropolitan Ministries provides faithful answers for poor, homeless and at-risk families living in our community through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency as an expression of the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ. The Ministries, a faith-based and community-supported non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization, is funded through the charitable support of the community, including individuals, businesses, congregations, schools, foundations and civic groups.
The Ministry projects needs will increase during Thanksgiving and Christmas with so many in need. They are currently hoping to serve more than 25,000 families across the Bay Area. Items in most demand are grocery gift cards (for turkeys), cereal, yams, canned fruit and boxed stuffing. Fans can also donate $10, or the equivalent of one turkey, to a family in need via text by sending the word METRO to 20222 (standard message rates may apply).
