The Tampa Bay Lightning announced today that power rock trio ZO2 is set to perform a post-game concert immediately following the team’s game versus the division-rival Washington Capitals on Saturday, February 18, as part of the Lightning Concert Series presented by Volkswagen. The concert is free with the purchase of a ticket to that night’s game and will be held on the west plaza stage of the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
ZO2 is a Brooklyn based power rock trio featuring brothers Paulie Z (vocals, guitar) and David Z (vocals, bass), along with their close friend Joey Cassata (drums, vocals). Their independently released debut album, Tuesdays & Thursdays, won the band surprising attention in just a short period of time. Within weeks of the album’s release, ZO2 found itself on the main stage opening for renowned acts Kiss and Poison on their entire 40-city, nationally sponsored VH1 “Rock the Nation” tour. Shortly after, the band released their second album, Ain’t It Beautiful, and landed a television series appropriately titled Z Rock, a semi-scripted comedy that aired for two seasons on the IFC channel. ZO2’s third album, Casino Logic, produced the singles “Painted Lady” and “No Way Out,” along with their respective music videos, which were in heavy rotation on Music Choice TV. They recently released four new singles on iTunes including the hit song “That’s What’s Up!”
Prior to helping form ZO2, David Z served as the bassist for the enormously successful Trans-Siberian Orchestra, while Cassata was featured with the highly successful and critically acclaimed Blue Man Group. Paulie Z, meanwhile, had gained fame as a featured vocalist on many of Howard Stern’s infamous song parodies. In addition to his musical endeavors, Paulie Z created the Rock Asylum Foundation, which creates original rock songs to teach elementary school kids academic curriculum. These songs are then performed live at concerts which take place at schools around the country with the goal of inspiring young people to succeed in their education and become creative well-rounded adults.
The Lightning Post-Game Concert Series began in 2006 and has been a huge hit, attracting fans to enjoy additional entertainment after catching all the excitement of Lightning hockey. Other dates scheduled as part of the Lightning Concert Series presented by Volkswagen include March 10, March 17 and March 24 with performers to be announced at a later date.
