Lightning Concert Series presented by Volkswagen to feature Danny Gokey performance on January 1

by Staff Writer / Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay Area Volkswagen dealers and the Tampa Bay Lightning are teaming up to bring the Lightning Concert Series presented by Volkswagen to the St. Pete Times Forum this season. The concert series will continue with a performance by Country music star Danny Gokey following the January 1 game against the New York Rangers. The concert series performances will be held outdoors on the West Plaza stage immediately following the game. Access to the Lightning Concert Series presented by Volkswagen is free with the purchase of a Lightning game ticket.

From his days of long hours as a truck driver to his third place finish on Season 8 of American Idol, Danny Gokey has always been a student of life. With an artist’s eye for detail and an inquisitive spirit eager to learn from every situation, Gokey has soaked up more life experience than most people twice his age. From the joyful to the heartbreaking, those experiences infuse Gokey’s 19 Recordings/RCA Nashville debut, My Best Days, a collection of songs that resonate with honest emotion and tap into the collective hopes and dreams that define life.

Poignant, rowdy, thought-provoking and smile-inducing -- Danny Gokey’s debut album is all those things and so much more. It’s a reflection of life’s peaks and valleys from a young man well acquainted with both. “I’m very proud of this CD. Every song has something to say,” he relates. “We’re all human, and human beings are made up of so many different aspects. We want to be entertained, but we also want to be inspired, and music is a universal language.”

The Lightning Concert Series began in 2006 and has been a huge hit, attracting fans to enjoy additional entertainment after watching exciting Lightning hockey. Other concert series performers will be announced throughout the season. Other dates scheduled as part of the Lightning Concert Series presented by Volkswagen include February 12, February 19, March 5 and March 11 with performers to be announced later in the season. To score the best seats for any Lightning home game, please call 813.301.6600 or visit for more information. Please note that due to scheduling conflicts, the original act for the January 1 date, Jennette McCurdy, will no longer be performing.
