TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning are offering its fans the opportunity to join in one of hockey's traditions of growing playoff beards with the players to help raise money for charity during the Lightning's playoff run.
The Lightning's Beard-A-Thon begins on Tuesday, April 15 with all money raised benefitting the Lightning Foundation and Moffitt Cancer Center's prostate cancer research. Once fans sign up on www.beardathon.com and create their own page, they can begin uploading pictures of their beards. Participants in the Beard-A-Thon can invite family, friends and business associates to pledge money to grow their playoff beards. By joining the Lightning's Beard-A-Thon, fans pledge to grow their facial hair for as long as the Bolts are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Those who are unwilling, or unable, to grow playoff beards can also choose to pledge to their favorite Lightning players. Women and children 13 and over can also participate by building or drawing beards on their own personal pages.
Participants are eligible to win prizes for raising money, including first round Lightning playoff tickets. The top overall fundraiser will win an autographed stick and jersey by a Lightning player. For more information on prizes and fundraising options, please visit www.beardathon.com.
