Exact game times are still to be determined.

This marks the first time that the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship will be played in the state of Florida. Tampa Bay was awarded the Frozen Four in 2005 as Tampa Bay Lightning forward, and former Vermont Catamount, Martin St. Louis served on the bid committee pursuing the championship. Seven years later, St. Louis will serve as the Chairman of the local organizing committee assembled by the Tampa Bay Sports Commission to work with the NCAA in conducting the championship.

“When we made our bid for the Frozen Four in 2005, I was very hopeful that we could host this it in Tampa Bay,” said St. Louis. “At that time, I wasn’t sure that I’d still be here in 2012 but I knew that the area would offer an unprecedented student-athlete and fan experience for the games. Now that the games are less than six months away, I am very excited to be a part of the group helping to bring the best in college hockey to our great fans in Tampa Bay. We will create a great event for everyone involved.”

St. Louis played as a member of the Catamounts in the Frozen Four in 1996, losing in the semifinals.

The Men’s Frozen Four has sold out 11 of the previous 12 years, with the only non-sellout occurring in 2010, when a crowd of 37,592 set the world indoor hockey attendance record at Ford Field in Detroit.

The St. Pete Times Forum, which recently completed a $40 million renovation, will be known as the Tampa Bay Times Forum as of Jan. 1, 2012.
