TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Edie Dopking as the sixth Lightning Community Hero of the year this morning at Quantum Leap Farms, located in Odessa. Lightning head coach Guy Boucher attended the event and presented Dr. Dopking with the $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program. She will donate the money to Quantum Leap Farms.
Dr. Dopking founded Quantum Leap Farms 12 years ago to help serve civilians and veterans with mental and physical disabilities. Since 2000, she has dedicated her life to providing hope and healing to disabled and challenged people, as well as their families at the therapeutic equine center. Dr. Dopking has had a special and significant impact in the lives of thousands of individuals in the Tampa Bay area. Her greatest desire is to help others achieve their dreams.
Quantum Leap Farms and Dr. Dopking welcome participants with disabilities ranging from autism, pediatric cancer, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis and many other conditions. Her intent is to always allow patients to attend the center regardless if they are able to pay or not. She has enthusiastically put in many 14-hour days to lead therapeutic sessions, managing daily operations, promoting Quantum Leap Farms and hosting events. Dr. Dopking guides more than 500 volunteers, utilizing recreational horseback riding and carriage riding to help her clients' road to recoveries with their health issues. Last year, Quantum Leap Farms exceeded over 800 wellness experiences and relationships.
