Degrees of separation: Lightning vs. Devils

by Staff Writer / Tampa Bay Lightning

Following last night’s 7-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens, the Bolts are back on the ice for the second half of back-to-backs, this time facing the New Jersey Devils. Evgeni Nabokov will lead the Bolts on to the ice tonight as they look to grab another two points and head on the road with a possible seven of eight points collected from their first homestand. Puck drops at 7:30. Follow the action on Sun Sports and 970 WFLA.

Here are tonight’s degrees of separation:

- Tampa Bay's Ondrej Palat and Radko Gudas skated alongside New Jersey's Jaromir Jagr for the Czech Republic at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Jagr made his NHL debut in 1990, the same year Gudas was born.

-Lightning Assistant Coach Steve Thomas has some familiarity with the Devils. He played three seasons with New Jersey from 1995-98. During that time Thomas skated in 193 games, recording 55 goals and 176 points. During the 1995-96 season he was teammates with current Devils goaltending coach, and former goalie, Chris Terreri.

- Bolt forward Valtteri Filppula and Devils forward Tuomo Ruutu were both born in the same town of Vantaa, Finland.

- Tampa Bay's Ryan Callahan and New Jersey's Cory Schneider were teammates on the 2004-05 USA world junior championships team.
