Degrees of Separation: Lightning vs. Canucks

by Michelle Gingras / Tampa Bay Lightning

The Bolts open up the first road trip of the season tonight versus the Vancouver Canucks. Last season, the Lightning won both contests against Vancouver with Valterri Filppula leading the way for the Lightning with two goals.

Tonight will be the first of two matchups between these teams. Puck drops at 10 p.m. EST and you can follow all of the action on 970 WFLA beginning at 9:30 p.m. as well as Sun Sports.

Here are tonight's connections:

  • Tampa Bay's Victor Hedman and Vancouver's Henrik & Daniel Sedin are from the same hometown: Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. All three spent time in the Modo Hockey club in Ornskoldsvik.
  • Bolts defenseman Jason Garrison played 128 games for the Canucks between 2012-14 where he recorded 15 goals along with 49 points.
  • Lightning forward Ryan Callahan and Vancouver goaltender Ryan Miller were teammates on team USA for both the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Together they won a silver medal in 2010.
  • Bolts Captain Steven Stamkos and Canuck forward Shawn Matthias played on the 2008 gold medal winning Canadian team at the world junior championships.
