Day 3 World Championships Notebook

by Peter Pupello / Tampa Bay Lightning

Even with Team USA out of action on Wednesday, both Teddy Purcell and Victor Hedman represented the Lightning well at the World Championships yet again.

Team Canada defeated Switzerland 3-2, while Team Sweden remained perfect in the tournament, as it earned a 5-2 victory over Germany.

Purcell didn’t land on the score sheet Wednesday, but did earn an even rating in 9:38 of ice time, as the win moved Canada to 3-0-1-0 with 10 points atop Group A.

Hedman, meanwhile, ranked third on Team Sweden in ice time with 22:55 and also registered an even rating, as the host country scored a fourth consecutive victory.

The action heats up again on Thursday with Team USA returning to the ice to take on Belarus. Fans can tune in to NBC Sports Network to witness Bolts forwards Nate Thompson and JT Brown excel on the international stage.

Both Team Canada and Team Sweden will have the day off on Thursday, but will resume play on Friday against Finland and Russia, respectively.
