The following is the third installation of the ‘by the numbers’ series for the Lightning. Keep a lookout on the Lightning website for more data breakdowns as we continue to provide some fun, interactive data visualizations.
One of the reasons for the early season success of the Lightning has been the play of its young players. Their growth, even since last season, has made a big difference. Today’s visualization looks at two of those players and how they rank in a key metric across the league.
Nikita Kucherov and Tyler Johnson currently rank second and third in the entire league in points per 60 minutes during 5 vs. 5 play. Both players have approximately doubled their total point output in these situations since last season. See the growth of all of this year’s top five players by using the season the season filter arrows at the bottom of the visualization.
