TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Alice Buzzetto as the 36th Lightning Community Hero of the 2015-16 season during the first period of tonight's game versus the Detroit Red Wings. Buzzetto, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, will donate the money to Dress for Success and Van Dyke United Methodist Church.
Tonight's community hero has played a pivotal role in aiding families that have been dealing with grief in their lives. Buzzetto is a facilitator at a GriefShare program that gives support to those who have lost a family member or friend. The program holds two 13-week sessions a year with an average of 15 participants per session. As a result, over 100 individuals have been guided through their journey with grief.
Buzzetto also serves as volunteer at Dress For Success, an organization that helps women with writing resumes and prepare for job interviews. Overall, her passion for serving others has impacted those who needed to resolve their complex issues of grief in order to achieve a fulfilled future.
Buzzetto becomes the 215th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through this evening's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $10.9 million to more than 300 different non-profits in the Greater Tampa Bay area.
