970 WFLA Becomes Official Radio Home of the Tampa Bay Lightning

iHeartMedia Tampa Bay announced Tuesday a new multi-year broadcast agreement with the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning to broadcast games on 970 WFLA, beginning with the start of the 2014 – 2015 season. The agreement will run through the 2016 – 2017 season.

970 WFLA will carry all Tampa Bay Lightning regular season and postseason games as well as select Lightning pre-season games, while iHeartMedia station 1250 WHNZ AM will broadcast all Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football games. The Lightning and the Storm franchises are controlled by Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment, LLC, an entity controlled by Jeff Vinik.

In addition to the broadcast rights secured by iHeartMedia, 620 WDAE will provide expanded team coverage on the iHeartMedia sports talk station. More news, interviews and team-related content will also be available on the new Tampa Bay Lightning dedicated iHeartRadio station.

iHeartMedia operates nine radio stations serving the Tampa / St. Petersburg DMA this new contract unites iHeart with the franchise that was recently ranked number six overall and first among all state of Florida professional franchises in the 2014 ESPN Ultimate Standings released September 19, 2014. ESPN ranked 122 professional teams in North America.
