TAMPA – Spots are filling up fast for one of the most popular and successful charity events in the Tampa Bay area as the 3rd Annual Vincent Lecavalier Texas Hold’Em Celebrity Poker Tournament once again invades the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa on Thursday, September 11.  One lucky person in attendance at this year’s event will win a trip to Las Vegas to play heads up against poker pro Daniel Negreanu during the 2009 World Series of Poker.  Take down Daniel, and win $5,000 out of his pocket.

Jerry Yang, the World Series of Poker 2007 Main Event winner, will Join the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Vinny Lecavalier and a full house of other celebrities as they go all-in to benefit the Vinny Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at All Children’s Hospital, scheduled to open in 2009. Other recent additions set to participate are actor/comedian Michael Ian Black (Reno 911!, The State), actors A.J. Buckley (CSI: NY, Entourage) and James Madio (Band of Brothers), boxing champion Winky Wright, retired baseball star Wade Boggs, retired Tampa Bay Buccaneer Donnie Abraham, tennis legend Nick Bollettieri, tennis pro Renee Stubbs and Red Bull wakeboarders Parks Bonifay, Brian Grubb, Josh Sanders and J.D. Webb. Radio personalities Todd Wright  of Sporting News Radio and Fisher, morning show host on 97X FM, will also stack their chips for charity

Previous commitments were received from Lecavalier’s Lightning teammates Martin St. Louis, Vaclav Prospal, Ryan Malone, Mark Recchi, Matt Carle, Matt Smaby, Jeff Halpern, Nick Tarnasky, Shane O’Brien, Michel Ouellet, Ryan Craig and Jason Ward, along with former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mike Alstott, Deal or No Deal’s Stacey Gardner, Jared Jeffries of the New York Knicks, and actress/model/poker pro Christina Lindley. New Lightning head coach Barry Melrose will serve as one of the evening’s hosts, along with FOX 13’s Charley Belcher.

This year’s tournament will offer a total prize pool of $45,000.  The top 10 finishers earn cash, with the winner receiving $10,000. Celebrities will compete for a $10,000 donation to the charity of their choice for the “last celebrity standing.” As an added incentive, any player who knocks out a celebrity will be rewarded through a progressive celebrity bounty prize pool. The evening gets started at 6 p.m. with a private VIP/Players Party, followed by the Wild Card Party featuring entertainment, a silent auction, a raffle, gaming, cocktails and Hors de Oeuvres for all guests at 7:15 p.m. The tournament gets underway at 8 p.m., with an awards ceremony to follow.

An individual buy-in for the tournament is $550, but don’t worry if you’re not an “ace” player. The tournament offers all players an unlimited number of re-buy opportunities during the first hour of play for $100 each. VIP All Access passes (including VIP Party, Wild Card Party and a spectator pass for the poker room) are also available for $450 each, and individual guest passes (ballroom only) can be purchased for $250.
