Reign Loses to Idaho, 3-1

ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads Friday evening, 3-1, in front of 5,177 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The match-up marked the first time the teams have met in club history, with center Tim Kraus notching the Reign’s lone goal and goaltender John Murray stopping 34 of 37 shots he faced on the night.

Idaho forward Bryan McGregor put the Steelheads (19-11-1-1) on the board first as he slipped the puck past Ontario goaltender John Murray at 3:17 into the match, making the score, 1-0. Less than a minute later, the Reign (18-11-1-1) rallied back with center Tim Kraus tying the game at one each, scoring his seventh goal of the season, off a rebound in front of the Steelheads net at the 4:11 mark in the first. Left wing Chris Curran and right wing Geoff Walker registered the assists, sending the teams into the second with a score, 1-1.

At 7:43 into the second period, the Steelheads pulled ahead, 2-1, off a one-time shot by forward Ben Nelson just outside of the Reign net. At 14:48, Idaho extended their lead to two, after left wing Mark Bomersback followed in a Steelhead rebound on the power play, lighting the lamp to push the score to, 3-1 in favor of Idaho.

Late in the third, Ontario pulled Murray from net for the extra attacker, but neither team could find the net in the scoreless period. The teams ended the match with a final score, Reign, 1, Steelheads, 3.
