ANCHORAGE, AK – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, fell 5-3 to the Alaska Aces in Anchorage Friday night. All-Star center Aaron Lewadniuk notched his ninth and tenth goals of the season.
The Reign struck first, as Lewadniuk corralled a loose puck to the right of the Alaska net and buried it for the 1-0 lead. The Aces leveled it at 18:00 of the first period with a power play goal by Mark Isherwood.
Ontario grabbed a 2-1 lead half way through the second frame with a power play goal of its own, when Dusty Collins’ centering pass deflected off of an Aces defender and into the net. Alaska jumped out to a 3-2 lead with goals by Scott Howes and Garry Nunn 66 seconds apart late in the second period.
Lewadniuk leveled it at 3-3 at 14:08 of the third period. The Reign center deked an Alaska defender and fell to his knees, but still managed to snap it past Gerald Coleman for his second goal of the match. However, Brian Swanson reclaimed the lead for the Aces less than a minute later and Howes put it away with an empty-net goal in the closing minute of regulation.
Kellen Briggs took the loss with 31 saves on 35 shots, while Coleman earned the win with 21 saves on 24 shots.
