ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, lost a hard-fought game to the Utah Grizzlies by a score of 5-3 in front of 5,824 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena Friday night.
Shawn Collymore gave the Reign an early 1-0 lead while on the power play. Collymore caught Grizzlies goaltender, Andrew Engelage, out of position and one-timed a cross-ice feed from Shawn Germain for his third power-play goal of the season. Germain’s helper extended his assist streak to four games. The next two goals went the Grizzlies’ way, as Simon Ferguson scored while Utah was short handed and Tim Crowder scored while on the power play.
At 8:48 of the second period, Jordan Morrison chipped a slow-rolling puck up and over Engelage for his eighth goal of the season, but Utah responded with a pair of goals by Tom May and Brett Parnham to take a 4-2 lead.
The teams exchanged goals in the third period and Morrison notched his second of the game for Ontario, but Utah won it with a final score of 5-3.
Beau Erickson made 29 saves and Engelage stopped 16.
