ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs fell to the Alaska Aces, 3-2, in front of 4,345 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena, Wednesday evening. Forward Dale Reinhardt and left wing Todd Jackson scored for the Reign, and goaltender John Murray blocked 42 of the 45 shots he faced in the match.
The Alaska Aces (18-13-1-1) opened the scoring with a pair of back-to-back goals midway through the fiirst period. Right wing Cam Keith tipped in the puck at the 8:55 mark, off a shot from defenseman Bryan Miller, to put the Aces up, 1-0. Less than a minute later right wing Brett Hemmingway pushed the Aces lead to two after shooting the puck past Reign goaltender John Murray, off a pass from behind the net. Reign forward Dale Reinhardt brought the Reign within one after lighting the lamp off an assist from right wing Brad Mehalko at 11:58 in the first. Reinhardt skated down the center of the ice firing a shot at Aces goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux. Lamoureux blocked the attempt and Reinhardt made a diving shot on his own rebound to find the net and make the score, 2-1, heading into the second period.
After a scoreless second stanza, the Ontario Reign (19-12-1-1) came out hard in the third, tying up the game just two minutes into the period. Reign left wing Todd Jackson netted the tying power play goal, scoring his seventh goal of the season, as he fired the puck past Lamoureux at 2:08 in the period. Right wing Itan Chavira and defenseman David Walker picked up the assists on the play, with Chavira registering his first professional point with his assist. With one minute remaining in regulation, Alaska forward Luke Erickson lit the lamp to give the Aces the go-ahead goal, making the score, 3-2. The Reign pulled Murray from goal with 26-seconds remaining for the extra attacker, but were unable to net the tying goal, ending the match with a final score, Reign 2, Alaska 3.
