on his favorite song:

“I think about it and I don’t really have a favorite song because there are so many good ones to choose from. I have a favorite album. I love every one of them obviously but I like the Load album the best because it reminds me of being 16 in high school and playing junior hockey, stuff like that.”

on his Metallica collection:

“I have everything they have done, even St. Anger. I like it because they were bold enough to try something different, as much as they got ridiculed about it by hardcore fans. What is crazy about people is that these guys are artists, they are musicians and they are supposed to be able to create. They can’t keep playing the same songs over again. That’s what I like about them- they aren’t afraid to try different things and they don’t care what people think. You want to make music that you like and people think that just because your song is on the radio you’re a sellout. That’s garbage to me.”

on how many times he has seen them play:

“I have seen them play five times, the last was this summer. I saw them in Tucson, AZ and then I went to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee and saw them there. It was amazing. Jack Johnson – not our Jack Johnson- was there, Chris Rock the comedian, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Kanye West, it was amazing. There were 60 or 80 artists over four days, with outside camping in 100 degrees."

on his pregame Metallica ritual:
“I listen to them because it motivates me and it also calms me. I always listen to them, and for about seven years I listened to The Outlaw Torn, it’s one of the last songs on the Load album and it was on the S & M album. It’s about nine or 10 minutes long and I used to listen to that before every game for six or seven years, but this year I decided to change things up on a whim.”

on when he became a fan
"I never really started getting big into it until… well I liked them when I was in high school, grade nine and 10, but when I was in grade 11 and 12. Where I am from, rock and music is big, AC/DC and Metallica are big-time bands. I was always more of sports guy and an athlete than a guy who was into music, but when I got older it shifted a little bit. I would walk around with my headphones sometimes in high school and listen to Master of Puppets.”

on his Metallica tattoo and his helmet:
“I got my Metallica tattoo three years ago, it was done on Venice Beach. I had it on my helmet for a long time, pretty much since the album came out in 2003. I love how it looks and I like the band so much that it was something I wanted to do.”

on meeting the band:

“I couldn’t sleep.  I was like a kid on Christmas. I took some photos. I don’t get too star struck but I don’t know. It was pretty cool and I was pretty nervous at the same time. I know James is into hockey, I am not sure about the other guys. I am pretty sure that Kirk is not, he is more of a surfer guy. I know I have a lot of jealous friends right now and I know my brothers are pretty jealous. It’s one of those things I always wanted to do, I always wanted to meet James Hetfield, so this was cool.”
