SHARKS (0-0-0) at KINGS (0-0-0)
7:00PM PT, TV: NBC SPORTS NETWORK; RADIO: AM 790 KABC
BACK TO IT: The Kings open their regular season schedule tonight against the San Jose Sharks at STAPLES Center, just 116 days after clinching their second Stanley Cup championship in three seasons on June 13. San Jose finished their preseason with a 3-2-2 record, the Kings 5-0-2. The Kings beat the Sharks 4-1 on September 30 at the SAP Center.
HOME DÉCOR: After tonight, the Kings will have a grand total of 11 banners permanently, and proudly hanging from STAPLES Center’s rafters. Along with the 2013-’14 Stanley Cup championship banner, the Kings will also unveil one for their 2013-’14 Western Conference championship.
JITTERS: When it comes to starting off the season, the Kings fare a bit better when in downtown Los Angeles. Dating back to the 2003-’04 season, the Kings are 5-5-0 in home opening games played at STAPLES Center. In season opening games, regardless of the location, the Kings are 4-6-0.
MUZZIN QUESTIONABLE: Due to an undisclosed issue, defenseman Jake Muzzin is questionable for tonight’s game. Per Jon Rosen, if Muzzin does in fact sit out, expect Brayden McNabb to make his regular season debut in a Kings uniform alongside Drew Doughty. Robyn Regehr is expected to skate with Slava Voynov, and Alec Martinez with Matt Greene.
CUP AND OUT: Starting at 5:00PM PT, the Stanley Cup will begin it’s final roundabout with the Kings before heading to Quebec to be engraved with the names of the championship roster. The trophy will make a ‘march-style’ entrance into STAPLES Center two hours prior to puck-drop, and will be present for a special pregame ceremony where the Kings will raise their 2013-’14 championship banner.
WE’RE DOING IT LIVE: Tonight’s game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network. However, for a local broadcast, tune into AM 790 KABC to hear our very own Nick Nickson and Daryl Evans call the action from STAPLES Center. Listen live on KABC.com.
