LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have recalled defenseman Richard Petiot from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League and have placed defenseman Mike Weaver on the injured reserve list (retroactive to December 30) due to a hip flexor injury, Kings President, Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.
Petiot, 23, was recalled by the Kings on November 1 and did not appear in a game for the club this season. In 29 games with the Monarchs this season, the 6-3, 200-pound native of Daysland, Alberta, has eight points (3-5=8) and 26 penalty minutes while posting a plus-minus rating of plus-12, which ranks second amongst all Monarchs blueliners this season. Selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (116th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Petiot wears No. 2.
Weaver, 27, suffered the injury during the Kings-Phoenix Coyotes game on December 29 at Glendale Arena. In 31 games with the Kings this season, his first with the club, the 5-9, 182-pounder from Bramalea, Ontario, has five points (all assists) and eight penalty minutes. In 88 career NHL games with the Kings and Atlanta Thrashers, he has 11 points (all assists) and 38 penalty minutes.
