It's not often two conference rivals go 18 months without playing each other. Then again, it's not often you see hockey in the desert either.

The Kings will take on the Colorado Avalanche in what's being billed as Frozen Fury 8 tonight, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The game, which is the first between the two teams since March of 2004, is schedule to start at 7:30 p.m..

The Kings head into tonight's contest with a 2-1 record in this pre-season, having just beaten Phoenix 8-4 last Tuesday. Meanwhile, Colorado has split their two pre-season games, beating Dallas in their opener before falling to Detroit on Wednesday.

Colorado will be playing without star right wing Milan Hejduk, who recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will be sidelined four to five weeks.

The Frozen Fury series has become very competitive between the two Western Conference rivals, with last seasons Kings 3-1 win breaking a six-year run of one-goal games. The Kings head into tonight's game haveng taken the last two games of the series.
