LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have assigned defenseman Joey Mormina to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced.

Mormina, 24, appeared in two preseason games with the Kings recording zero points and four penalty minutes. In addition, the 6-6, 220-pound native of Montreal, Quebec, recorded 13 points (0-13=13) and 70 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Monarchs this past season.

Originally selected by Philadelphia in the sixth-round (193rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Mormina signed with the Kings as a free agent on August 24, 2005. He has not appeared in a regular season NHL game.
