The Winnipeg Jets today announced they have agreed to terms with defenceman Ben Chiarot on a one- year, two way contract worth $600,000.
Chiarot, 23, played in 65 games with the St. John’s IceCaps last season recording 20 points (6G, 14A) and 96 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 21 post-season games helping the IceCaps reach the Calder Cup Finals with five points (2G, 3A) and 16 penalty minutes. The Hamilton, ON native played in his first NHL game last season, suiting up for Winnipeg in a game versus the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 2/13. Chiarot has played in 145 career AHL games, with St. John’s and Chicago, earning 34 points (8G, 26A) and 200 penalty minutes. He’s also played in 24 career ECHL games, all with the Colorado Eagles where he collected 13 points (6G, 7A) and 13 penalty minutes.
He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round, 120th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
