Czech Republic wins in OT; Sweden triumphs

David Pastrnak scored 1:01 into overtime to give the Czech Republic a 4-3 win against Denmark in a preliminary-round game at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Champion Championship at Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Monday.

Pastrnak (Boston Bruins) also had two assists.

The Czech Republic tied the game 3-3 with 3:02 remaining in the third period on a goal by forward Dominik Kubalik (Los Angeles Kings).

The teams traded goals in each of the first two periods before forward Mathias Asperup scored 6:05 into the third period to give Denmark a 3-2 lead.

The Czech Republic (0-2-0-2) outshot Denmark 48-14. Georg Sorensen made 44 saves for Denmark (0-0-3-1).

Vitek Vanecek (Washington Capitals) made 11 saves, and defenseman Jan Stencel had a goal and two assists for the Czech Republic.

Sweden 3, Russia 2: Gustav Forsling (vancouver Canucks) scored twice, and William Nylander (Toronto Maple Leafs) had two assists for Sweden, which defeated Russia for the sixth straight time over the past four years.

Each game was decided by one goal. Defenseman Alex Holmstrom (Detroit Red Wings) scored the winner in this one at 10:53 of the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie.

Forsling gave Sweden a 1-0 lead at 10:38 of the first period.

Vyacheslav Leshenko tied it for Russia on a rebound at 14:15 of the second period, and gave it a 2-1 lead at 3:23 of the third.

Forsling's second goal of the game, on a power play, tied it 2-2 at 6:44.

In a goaltending matchup of New York Islanders prospects, Linus Soderstrom made 27 saves for Sweden, and Ilya Sorokin made 23 for Russia.

Sweden (3-0-0-0) plays Switzerland and Russia (1-1-0-1) plays the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
