Tavares and Halak Drafted by Team Toews

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

John Tavares and Jaroslav Halak will play together at the NHL’s All-Star Weekend, as the Islanders teammates were drafted to Team Toews at Friday’s All-Star Fantasy Draft.

Tavares was drafted in the 5th round (10th overall) while Halak was picked in the 10th round (20th overall), as the NHL’s all-stars were lined up against the metaphorical fence Friday night.

Tavares and Halak won’t be complete strangers with their all-star teammates, as they’ve played with some of the league’s elite in all-star and international competition.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the connections:

John Tavares and Ryan Getzlaf: Tavares and Getzlaf won gold together at the 2014 Olympics and played at the 2012 World Championships.

John Tavares and Shea Weber: Tavares and Weber won gold together at the 2014 Winter Olympics and played for Team Alfredsson at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game

John Tavares and Patrice Bergeron, Roberto Luongo, Rick Nash and Jonathan Toews: Tavares, Bergeron, Nash and Toews were teammates at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Jaroslav Halak and Vladimir Tarasenko: Halak and Tarasenko played two seasons together in St. Louis.
