Islanders prospect Jeff Tambellini was selected to represent the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the 2008 American Hockey League All-Star game on January 28 in Binghamton, NY. The native of Port Moody, BC will play for the Canadian All-Star Team.
“Jeff deserves this recognition for everything he does for our team as one of the league’s best scorers and as one of our leaders,” said Sound Tigers coach Jack Capuano.
In 33 games this season with Bridgeport, Tambellini is 22-19-41. He ranks second in the AHL in goals and fifth in points. Tambellini set a Sound Tigers record earlier this week when he notched his fifth shorthanded goal of the season.
Tambellini has also skated in eight games with the Islanders this season.
This is the second time Tambellini will play in the AHL All-Star game. While a member of the Manchester Monarchs during his first season in the league in 2005-06, Tambellini played for the Canadian team.
The AHL All-Star Game is split between Canadian and American All-Stars, with Europeans participating on the American side.
