Islanders prospect records seven points in three games with Bridgeport during the week

Islanders prospect Jeff Tambellini was named the Rbk/American Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending December 30, 2007. For the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders’ AHL affiliate, Tambellini scored five goals and added two assists for seven points in three games on the week.

Tambellini began the post-Christmas schedule with four points in a 5-4 win over Hershey on Wednesday, including an assist on the game-winning goal with 1:46 remaining in the third period. He scored both Bridgeport goals in a 4-2 loss to Providence on Friday night, and picked up the insurance tally in a 2-0 win over Hartford on Saturday.

In recognition of his achievement, Tambellini will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Sound Tigers home game.

The son of former Islander Steve Tambellini, Jeff has played in eight games with the Islanders this season. In 52 contests with the Islanders over the past three seasons, Tambellini has recorded three goals and seven assists for ten points.

The 23-year-old Calgary native ranks third in the American Hockey League with 18 goals, eighth with 35 points and tied for first with four shorthanded goals in 29 games for the Sound Tigers this season. An AHL All-Star as a rookie in 2006, Tambellini has recorded 73 goals and 77 assists for 150 points in 135 career AHL games.
