A pair of private dinners with Islanders GM Mike Milbury, auctioned on Ebay, have raised more than $15,000 for the Islanders Children's Foundation. On the strength of the intimate dinners, the Sept. 7 Cocktails and Q & A at Westbury Manor and several private donations -- including from many of the NHL teams -- Milbury is on his way to reaching his goal of raising upwards of $100,000 to benefit the youth hockey programs in China.

In other news, limited tickets remain for the Islanders' special reception for fans on Wednesday Sept. 7 from 7-9:30 pm at the Westbury Manor. At this event, Milbury will be joined by Islanders players and coaches. A Phil Donahue-style question-and-answer session between the fans in attendance and the GM will be moderated by FSNY Islanders studio host Deb Kaufman.

The 7-9:30 pm event will feature an open bar and hors d'oeuvres. There will be a Silent Auction, featuring an array of unique Islanders and NHL memorabilia. A Live Auction, beginning at 9, will include an exclusive trip on the Islanders' charter aircraft to a road game, including tickets and hotel.

Tickets for the event are $100 and are available by calling Steve Beisel at 516.501.6896 or emailing him at Proceeds from the event will go to the New York Islanders Children's Foundation, which will be used to support the growth of youth hockey in China. With your help, we will have the opportunity to finance a trip for children of the Chinese cities of Harbin & Qi Qi Har youth leagues to compete in the Bell Atlantic Tournament held in Ottawa this season. In addition, your donations will support the Chinese Women's National Hockey Team.

Last night's dinner at the Garden City Hotel featured Milbury, Islanders head coach Steve Stirling and Islanders legend Bob Nystrom along with their twelve guests. For more than two hours, the NHL and the Islanders' past, present and future was discussed over a three-course meal.

This morning, Milbury received the following email from one of his guests:

Mr. Milbury,

Thanks to you, Mr. Nystrom and Coach Stirling for dinner last night. It was probably the best night of my life! Just hearing about your trip to China and talking about hockey was a great thrill for me. I liked my talk with Coach Stirling about hockey and about the team for this coming season. I can't wait for the season to start!

I could tell my Dad really enjoyed talking to you and Mr. Nystrom about your playing days. He often tells me about how good the game was back then. I think the game will be good this season with the rule changes and I think the Islanders are going to be really good.

Thanks again, Mr. Milbury. My dad and I look forward to seeing you at the Coliseum this season.

Billy Gaffney
