Presidents Day Race at the Coliseum

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The New York Islanders announced today that George Washington has committed to defending his title at the Nassau Coliseum Annual Skate-Off during the first intermission of the game against the Ottawa Senators, Sunday, February 14 at 5:00 p.m.

This is the second consecutive year that the Coliseum ice will host this annual event in honor of Presidents Day and features our founding fathers:  Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Washington as they race around the ice to be crowned Commander in Chief of the Rink.

“The infamous Presidents of the Nationals Presidents Race are probably more recognized for their competition at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. but it is evident that a new tradition is growing on the ice here at the Nassau Coliseum,” said Tim Beach, Vice President, Operations and Events for the New York Islanders. “What better way to celebrate Presidents Day, than with a visit from three of the most prominent Presidents the United States has known.”

The Presidents join other honored dignitaries and famous celebrities to attend an Islanders Game this season. The list includes: Entourage star, Kevin Connolly; actor from My Cousin Vinny and Karate Kid, Ralph Macchio and New York Mets great, Darryl Strawberry.
