by Cory Wright / New York Islanders

The Islanders will play in the franchise’s first-ever outdoor game Wednesday at Yankee Stadium against the New York Rangers. In an effort to get acquainted with the outdoor rink, the Islanders practiced at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday afternoon before hosting a skate for their families.

Here are some news, notes and quotes from today’s skate.

Lineup Not Set: Jack Capuano did not reveal his lines for Wednesday’s game against the Rangers. The coach said deciding who will not dress for tomorrow’s game will be the toughest call.

Non-Starter: Head coach Jack Capuano did not name a starting goalie for Wednesday.

Hamonic Placed on IR: Travis Hamonic was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 12. As a result, Hamonic did not skate today at Yankee Stadium and was ruled out for Wednesday’s game.

Donovan Recalled: Matt Donovan was recalled by the Islanders on Tuesday morning.

Poulin Goes Pro: Kevin Poulin sported a go-pro camera on his helmet during Tuesday’s practice. Evgeni Nabokov opted for a toque over his helmet.

Chill in the Air: It was a crisp 19 degrees (10 with wind chill) today at Yankee Stadium, but that didn’t faze the players, who largely grew up and played outdoor hockey in cold climates.

From the Coach:

You get into this building, you're in the Bronx, you're in Yankee Stadium, a great venue, and it's pretty amazing what the NHL has done with these events. I think when we get out there [Wednesday] night it will be all business. But [Tuesday] was a day for our guys to enjoy a good, spirited practice, lot of time with their families. It's not every day you get to do that.
