NYI WEEKLY PROSPECT WATCH: March 26-April 1

Welcome to the third installment of the NYI Weekly Prospect Watch playoff edition. With the Islanders' college prospects out of the NCAA tournament and back to their studies, it's time to focus on the CHL prospects.

In the Canadian junior leagues, all four Islanders prospects are in the middle of their of first-round playoff matches or have moved onto the second round - Andrew MacDonald (Moncton in the QMJHL), Robin Figren (Calgary in the WHL), Dustin Kohn (Brandon in the WHL) and Tomas Marcinko (Barrie in the OHL). Here is their up-to-date stats as well as the other Islanders prospects throughout North America and Europe still playing.
 

Name: Robin Figren
Position: Left Wing
Team: Calgary (3-2 series lead in the 1st round)
League: WHL

Acquired: Islanders 2006 third-round draft pick (70th overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (5), Goals (0), Assists (1), Points (1), PIM (2)

Update: Calgary failed to wrap-up their first-round series against Kootenay on Saturday, dropping a 4-0 decision. The series moves back to Calgary, tonight, with the Hitmen up 3-2.

 

Name: Dustin Kohn
Position: Defenseman
Team: Brandon (4-1 series win in the 1st round)
League: WHL

Acquired: Islanders 2005 second-round draft pick (46th overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (2), Goals (0), Assists (3), Points (3), PIM (4)

Update: Kohn notched an assist in the series-clinching 4-2 win over Prince Albert on Saturday. Brandon take on the Regina Pats in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal, set to begin later this week.
 


Name: Andrew MacDonald
Position: Defenseman
Team: Moncton (3-3 series tied in the 1st round)
League: QMJHL

Acquired: Islanders 2006 sixth-round draft pick (160th overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (6), Goals (1), Assists (5), Points (6), PIM (4)

Update: MacDonald's Moncton Wildcats play a decisive Game Seven on Tuesday against Halifax. Moncton held on for a 4-3 win on Friday after allowing two third-period goals to tie the series at three. MacDonald is tied for seventh in the league among playoff defensemen with five assists. 


 
Name: Tomas Marcinko
Position: Center
Team: Barrie (4-0 series win in the 1st round)
League: OHL

Acquired: Islanders 2006 fourth-round draft pick (114th overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (4), Goals (0), Assists (1), Points (1), PIM (4)

Update: Barrie swept their opening-round series against Brampton and move onto the Eastern Conference Semifinals. They will face Sudbury, who upset Mississauga in the opening round.

 

Name: Troy Mattila
Position: Left Wing
Team: Springfield (26-31-5)
League: NAHL

Acquired: Islanders 2006 seventh-round draft pick (190th overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (16), Goals (11), Assists (8), Points (19), PIM (6)

Update: Springfield missed the playoffs by three points, ending their season. Mattila was impressive in his short stint with the Blues, tying for seventh on the team in goals with 11, having played only 16 games.


 
Name: Stefan Ridderwall
Position: Goaltender
Team: Djurgardens (1-2 final series loss)
League: J20 SuperElit (SWE)

Acquired: Islanders 2006 sixth-round draft pick (173rd overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (7), GAA (1.44), SV% (.956)

Update: Djurgardens took a 1-0 series lead over Frolunda, but lost the next two games by the same score - 2-1. Ridderwall led all playoff goalies in goals against average and save percentage.
 
 

Name: Shane Sims
Position: Defenseman
Team: Des Moines (29-18-9)
League: USHL

Acquired: Islanders 2006 fifth-round draft pick (126th overall)

Stats to date: Games Played (55), Goals (9), Assists (19), Points (28), PIM (131)

Update: Des Moines is tied for the final playoff spot in the West Division with four games remaining. Sims picked up a goal and an assist in Des Moines' 6-2 win over Tri-City on Tuesday.
