New York Islanders Continue Life-saving Commitment This Holiday Season

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders
The American Red Cross and the New York Islanders will again partner for a blood drive to continue their lifesaving commitment this holiday season. The Islanders will host a blood drive on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. As a special thank you for helping their neighbors, all presenting donors will receive a voucher for two tickets to a future Islanders home game.*

It's important to remember that blood is needed throughout the year and giving blood is a simple act that helps save lives. Approximately every two seconds a patient in the United States needs blood and the only source is a generous volunteer blood donor. Your one blood donation can help save up to three lives and it only takes about an hour of your time.

“The Red Cross encourages Islanders fans to give something that means something this holiday season and throughout the year by making an appointment to donate blood,” said Donna M. Morrissey, Director of Communications, Red Cross Northeast Division.

“We’ve seen tremendous success with each blood drive we’ve held this year and I know that will continue during this important holiday season,” Dave Decina, Islanders VP of Corporate Partnerships, said. “The holidays always remind us of the importance of giving. It’s usually to family and friends, but we hope the timing of this blood drive can help refresh everyone’s mind that there are plenty of people who need blood. The Islanders family is ready to give something that means something by holding this drive and we know our fans will be giving, too.”

The Red Cross blood drive will take place in the Lower Box Office of the Coliseum. There are still appointments available for this drive and all eligible donors are encouraged to schedule a time to donate blood for the hospital patients we support. Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting All presenting donors will also receive a voucher for one (1) free entrée from Moe’s Southwest Grill and have the opportunity to enter to win a grand prize package which includes four (4) Islanders game tickets, a “High Five” opportunity as players come onto the ice, overnight accommodations and breakfast at the Long Island Marriott Hotel and Conference Center.*

*Prizes are not redeemable for cash and are non-transferable. Ticket vouchers are for Monday-Thursday games (excluding NY Rangers) and pending availability on game day.
