Modell's Hockey Week Ends With A Bang

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

As the final part of Modell's Hockey Week, Sparky, the Ice Girls, and defenseman Freddy Meyer made their way to the Modell's in East Meadow located on Hempstead Turnpike. From 5:30 pm to 7 pm, the whole gang was on hand as over 200 fans lined the store for a chance to meet Freddy, the Ice Girls and Sparky. Prior to the event, Sparky made his way out to the front of the store and stood on the sidewalk along Hempstead Turnpike, directing traffic into the parking lot of Modell's. He also helped start the famous “Let's Go Islanders” horn honk as cars stuck in rush hour traffic at red lights all joined in.  “I love a chance to come down and hang out with the fans,” said Meyer, fresh off his first goal of the season. As a part of Modell's Hockey Week, anyone who spent over $50 on hockey equipment received a voucher for a free ticket to the February 21st game against the Tampa Bay Lighting.
