Meyer and Comeau to Suit-up Tonight

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

Berard and Bergeron scratched tonight against Buffalo – Islanders vs. Buffalo, 7 pm, TV: FSN NY, Radio: Bloomberg 1130

After playing in his first game with the Islanders this season on December 8 in a 3-2 overtime win at Tampa Bay, Freddy Meyer will see action tonight when the Islanders host the Buffalo Sabres for the final time during the 2007-08 regular season.

"Talk about a team guy," said head coach Ted Nolan of Meyer. "He's been very patient, working his tail off and he deserves a chance to play. So he'll team up with Andy Sutton."

The other defense pairings will be the usual combinations of Radek Martinek with Brendan Witt and Chris Campoli alongside Bruno Gervais. Bryan Berard and Marc-Andre Bergeron will be tonight's healthy scratches.

Up front, Blake Comeau will see his first action of the season with the Islanders after playing in three contests with the big club in 2006-07. The British Columbia native will skate on a line with Richard Park and Tim Jackman.

"Blake has experience and there's nothing like youthful enthusiasm," said Nolan. "Blake has won a gold medal with the Canadian World Junior team. This guy can play and understands the game. He has good vision and hockey sense. We expect some enthusiasm and some good, young legs skating hard for us."
